Hello, I am Sophie
Project manager. Parent. Expat residing in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually opened a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn’t part of our long-range plan. Like many moves for expatriates, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far bigger.
The first few months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet, gradually routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began to create something that felt steady.
Why I Built Mellow Field Nest
Most online content focused on corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism material. What was lacking was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap with practical guidance drawn from real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Stands For (And Doesn’t)
This site OFFERS:
- Practical experience gained from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and day-to-day realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site IS NOT:
- Not an official tourism authority resource
- A paid-review platform
- Just another ordinary travel blog
Looking Forward
Our time in Netherlands continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
Sophie
